Don’t Be Fooled By High Numbers of Followers: Not a True Measure of Success
The chase for more followers and more “fame” is real on social media platforms. Why does everyone think that more followers = more money? It couldn’t be further from the truth.
Let’s look at a couple of scenarios when a large number of followers does not equate to a large number of sales.
Scenario 1: When an account has a lot of followers from years ago, a lot of those pages may not be active anymore, hence there are no people to actually convert into prospects.
Scenario 2: When an account was started in a different niche or industry and then switched to the current niche. People who follow the account (or a part of them) will not be interested in the new niche, they will still be interested in the previous niche. Hence = no prospects.
Scenario 3: The followers were bought. I don’t think anything has to be said here, except that those pages need follower cleaning asap.
Scenario 4: The business or person who owns the account does not know how to sell through content, and don’t give adequate nurturing to prospects for them to buy.
There can be other reasons, but lack of strategy and knowledge of content nurturing are the reasons most businesses don’t get clients through their social channels.
